Diabolical Conquest (Kunal Choksi): Hi Shaun, what were you doing before this?

Putrid Pile (Shaun LaCanne): playing with my balls a bit and plus i just got back from playing the CIM metalfest.  TOTAL SICKNESS!!!

DC: Playing with your balls is sheer sickness I agree. Tell me how come you play riffs while other American bands go JUN-JUN-JUN-JUN?

Putrid Pile: LOL!!  i like catchy riffs.  riffs thatll stick in your head,ya know?  plus i like old school so i try to incorporate that in as well.

DC: Oh yeah, many riffs from 'The Pleasure In Suffering'
got stuck in my head with the stubbornness of a chewing gum stuck on your shoe sole. I had to stoop to real low levels like listening to some horrendously catchy pop to extricate them from my head. I wish I hadn't done that because now I've got those pop tunes stuck in my head instead. Anyway, last month I almost bounced off my fat aunt like an excited pinball when she told me that more people were going to play in Putrid Pile in the future. Can you validate her gossip? How did that happen and what made you do that?

Putrid Pile: i was jammin with derek hoffman(ex-Gorgasm) for a little while, but he just got done with the latest Fleshgrind album so he had a commitment to that.  i had another guitar player as well for awhile that played some shows with me,but after that he wanted to do other things so......  its back to just me again!

DC: Aww. What's the most difficult thing in running a one-man show? Could you enlighten us about the advantages and disadvantages of having a one-man band?

Putrid Pile: the advantages are i can write what i want without other people slamming my riffs i work hard and also i get to travel all over the world whenever i want.  thats totally a bonus!!  what sucks is i dont have my bros on the road and sometime i dont have help carying in all of my gear.  other then that everythings cool!!

DC: If you came here people would murder each other, and their families, and their cattle to help you carry your gear. How did you go about your song writing process? Which instrument do you enjoy playing the most?

Putrid Pile: sometimes i write the drumlines first and then the guitar riffs.  and then other times ill start with a guitar riff or two and go from there.  i enjoy playing the guitar the most.  thats my mailn instrument.  when im watching other bands though i pay more attention to the drums.

DC: How do you manage to extract such sick vocals without using any effects? I came to know because it is mentioned it in your booklet otherwise I would have surely lost a bet with a friend and would've been sitting naked on top of a local train getting electrocuted by now. It seems you’ve made sure that even the various guest vocals on 'The Pleasure In Suffering' are done without the usage of any vocal effects. What’s the reason behind that? Do you feel this practice is unfair?

Putrid Pile: LOL!!  awesome dude!!  well i didnt used to like vocal effects, but ive been warming up to it lately in the music i listen to.  i just dont like it for my music.  i love true raw vocals.  i like to see what the human voice is capable of.  anyone can use effects,ya know.  i can make a 6 year old girl sound like Devourment with effects.  i just open up my throat as far as i can and push that sickness out man!  it seems to work pretty well.......,well sometimes!  LOL!!

DC: The production on your new one was top-notch. It must’ve taken a lot of patience and perseverance on your part. How much time it did it take you?

Putrid Pile: it took about tow months, but there was a lot of down time due to family things and trying to get into the studio.  one day i would do the snare.  the next i would do the toms.  the next day i would do guitars. and so on.    if i would have done it all with no breaks it would have taken about one week or two with the mixing.  thanks for the compliment on the production BTW!

DC: You’ve jumped from United Guttural to Goregiastic Records for your second album. Are they treating you well or do you intend to keep jumping?

Putrid Pile: They are treating me very well right now.  its early to tell, but i would like to stay with them.

DC: What gave you the idea for your band name? I would’ve assumed you got that idea from a public toilet but then again I think the toilets are much more hygienic your side. So what exactly influenced the name Putrid Pile?

Putrid Pile:  i liked how it rolled off of the tongue.  also it leaves a lot to the imagination.  when i think of the name i think of a pile of corpses.  someone else could think of something different.  its all up to the person i guess.

DC: My brain couldn’t comprehend the presence of leads on your album and got paralysed as a result (this normally happens when I see real life cleavage). Although they’ve been used rarely, the leads are very effective and you ought to play more of them in future. Their absence makes the already bland bands in this genre even blander. That shouldn’t be possible but it somehow is. Don’t you think more brutal death metal bands should play leads?

Putrid Pile:  leads dont impress me much.  i can play them and plan to have 1 or 2 on the next album, but their just for flash anyway.  i dont really mind them if they are done well and have some thought put into them.

DC: What can we expect from Putrid Pile in future? Are you going to try for some progression in your music or will you continue playing the same putrid way?

Putrid Pile:  i will still keep slam and old school riffing in there, but i plan to progress.  i have 6 new songs written and they are better the my previous efforts.

DC: My heart leaped along with me when my eyes fell on your album pic in which you were squatting quite professionally. That critical pose aroused a great sense of closeness not only in me, but also in the hearts of everyone from my country I’m sure. Can you please articulate that singular experience for us?

Putrid Pile: why thank you vey much for your kind words my friend!!  i always like the poses like that.  i try to be as professional as possible.  i take my music very seriously and hope everyone else does the same!

DC: I also noticed that like me even you wear spectacles. Do you think that makes us superior? I’m certain that it helps you write good riffs. I can’t think of anyone wearing spectacles and playing in a brutal death metal band, no wonder they suck. Isn’t that so?

Putrid Pile:  yeah.  nerd metal RULES!!  LOL!!

DC: What do you think of my review? And when you’re done with that, tell me what do you think of our site?

Putrid Pile: AWESOME!  anyone who supports the underground is a friend to me.  i really appreciate the time you took to type up the interview!!  it means a lot to me!

DC: Now that you're done with that too, what else do you think?

Putrid Pile: I think people need to keep coming to the shows and supporting the underground.  and maybe buy a cd or two online instead of downloading music all of the time.  this hurts the bands that need cash for expensive gas to get to shows to play for the people.

DC: Thanks a ton for this interview, any final thoughts?

Putrid Pile:  thank you for the interesting interview man!  everyone check me out at www.putridpile.com or  www.myspace.com/putridpile  CHEERS!  SUPPORT THE UNDERGROUND!!!!
