So we have here the shamelessly over-hyped slam death heroes from Russia. ‘Moscow Style Sickness' is what they proudly call their music and that is quite a misnomer for there is no real style present here. Stupidity has no style. If Devourment and their thousand emulators didn't inflict enough damage on the genre, Abominable Putridity cheekily rip off their most prominent dumb chug/slam parts and play them ad nauseam. It is utterly ridiculous to say the least, and adding to your profound shock is the fact that there actually seems to exist a large retarded audience for this outrageous form of music.
In the End of Human Existence is devoid of riffs, let alone memorable ones. By riffs I mean the legitimate ones that should rightfully be found on a death metal album. All you have is hefty chug/slams played pompously and with irritating consistency. The band expects you to be overjoyed with the breakdowns upon breakdowns upon breakdowns that they overwhelm you with, even though they don't have a semblance of a buildup. By directly flashing the cunt and repeatedly zooming in and out, Abominable Putridity expect their audience to orgasm continuously for nearly 30 minutes. Very convenient, only it doesn't work.
Admittedly, the band does appease the really tiny, almost nonexistent slam fan that resides in me. When in the mood, the music does make my body wobble albeit strongly against my mind's wishes. I spent most of the time enduring this album while taking a shower and while it did add a bounce in my step, it took only a few of songs for me to come out naked and violently slap my music system with foamy hands for it to play something different. A handful of songs, that's all it takes for you to get bored of this band if you are a brutal death fan with some self-respect.
I won't lie to you; there are a couple of fleeting parts which caught my notice. “Intestinal Putrefaction” has a fantastic opening - a massive rattling breakdown to which your arms flail in the air while your legs panic and carry your twitching torso towards the nearest wall. “Sphacelated Nerves” again has a great earthquake-in-a-moshpit start, accompanied by nice deep guttural vocals. In both cases, however, the band miserably fails to capitalise on the raging start it creates. Hence, citing these instances in this kind of album is like pointing out a beauty spot on a face full of pimples.
The best aspect of this album is by far its sonorous production, boasting of a full and instantly gratifying sound that would warm up even the most stuck up elite asshole to the idea of slamming. And that reflects very poorly on the quality of Abominable Putridity's music. It's like a revving a supposedly fancy sports car and attempting to wow everyone around with the deafening roar of the engine – when, just like their music which goes nowhere, it is at a standstill, the only way it is in a state to be.
In the End of Human Existence is as attractive-looking and creamy in texture as chocolate ice-cream, but it is essentially shit. I laugh at those who claim to actually relish it. This despicable slam death ‘trend' that seems to have been reinstated after the NYDM and TXDM boom thanks to new acts such as Waking the Cadaver, Guttural Engorgement [review], Vulvectomy, etc. will remain just that and hopefully a short-lived one, for it is bound to get redundant if it hasn't already.
