Anonima Sequestri - Unsafe, Insane, and Forced
Necrogrinder - Vocals & Bass
Beri - Guitar
Session - Drums
When I read their music description that went like “slow-motion goregrind”, obviously I wasn't expecting to be blown away. Worse, I was afraid it would sound as boring as say Hymen Holocaust or more because they openly confess to be slow. Much to my delight or relief or both, the music of these Italian pornogrinders, while indeed languorous, is much more fun than I'd imagined. Unsafe, Insane, and Forced is modelled on Cock and Ball Torture's Egoleech album and a bit of Opus(sy) IV, and also imbibed are influences of like-minded German pornogroove perverts, Dead and Mucupurulent (from their Sicko Baby days). Sounds groovy, of course, but there is a risk of this kind of music getting too one-tracked and simple to the point of it being dumb.
Anonima Sequestri have made sure that their music isn't too accessible or commercial ear friendly and that it has enough underground value to it to retain the interest of the original grind fans. They have done that by achieving a ridiculously raw sound that has the guitar tone feeling like unshaved twats rubbing against your ears, the basic but effective lo-fi sound of an above average garage drum kit, and wildly pitch-shifted gurgling and croaking vocals that are comparable to those done by Libido Airbag. With that sound and loads of attitude, Anonima Sequestri have the liberty to play the simplest tunes and get away with it. But they do enough to keep their songs from sounding the same, like modifying the nature of their grooves and beats to a certain extent each time with the help from an drummer who's agile albeit under the influence of alcohol, alternating between reeling groovehooks and vulgar gorechug-nugget unloading, and also sneak in some raw fuzz-ridden brutal death metal parts sounding akin to Fetal Butchery. There exists a possibility of you feeling the music getting too lethargic or not being as efficacious at times, but by the time you realise that you're too late; by then the music already has you under its drowsy influence and has rendered you too lazy to complain. Plus they also provide a cover of the CBT classick “Anal Sex Terror” so you shouldn't rightfully.
Anonima Sequestri is not the kind of band you would hear first thing in the morning to have an explosive start to the day. Their simple, unpretentious, groovy and laidback music in fact makes for perfect listening after coming home from a long day at work. It will then feel like shamelessly resting on the wobbly stomach of an obese woman (probably your wife) as if it were a beanbag. Nice.
