Undercover cops kill me cause they always look like pigs no matter how hard they try to fit in with their clothes. This goes back to when they were little assholes at high school who were not geeky or smart enough to hang with the nerds, not athletic enough to be a jock, too sanctimonious to be punk, too uptight to be a stoner, too stupid to like Metal, and too fucking homophobic to be gay, which is ironic cause they sure love them tight ass hugging uniforms and large guns with penis looking bullets. For these reasons, those diminutive pukes grew up to be cops cause they don't have the brains for the level of on the job corruption within the NSA, CIA, or Secret Service. Nope, cops are rottweiler minded morons who have a badge and a gun to take away your good time no matter how innocent. They make insignificantly inane busts and work for multinational corporations through the government to further stamp out your mostly innocent fun then cohort around like hero's, but the fact is that they wanted a job with benefits like everyone else, and if they had any type of true ambition they would have become professional thieves. “So Mike, what the fuck does this rant have to do with Aversion to Life ?” “Well impatient diabolical reader the perfect soundtrack for kicking the shit of a cop or any other half assed thug in a badge wearing uniform is the CD ‘Ritualized Murder'. Yeah, that's right; abduct that meathead caveman pig and beat his bullshit wanna be authoritarian ass with a goddamned crowbar with Aversion to Life providing the hate at malignant volume.
Aversion to Life come out of Texas and is signed with Comatose Music. They are ugly mean degenerates who play a combo of slamming Brutal Death Metal mixed with hints of technicality and virulent harmony. Each song is a sinuous maze of chugs amalgamated with emetic vituperative vocals of rancid odor busted from the lower guts of Justin Lain. The voice of Lain has the bottom end intonation of a shit stacked sewer pipe resembling a Devourment tone mixed with a hint of Drowning. Emmitt Gillaspy provides guitar riffs that are smoothly fast and punchy. He isn't content to drag the listener through every track in the monotonous locomotive cook book guzzle method of Artery Eruption, or Stabwound. No, Gillaspy brings nice licks ala Lust of Decay, slick breaks similar to something from ‘Progression Towards Evil' era Skinless, and intermittent changes that bring to mind perpetually pervasive Suffocation. When Gillaspy does throw in the chug it levels you with the impact of a 2 x 4 to the rib cage in a crushing friction similar to ‘Recounts of Disembodiment' period Beheaded. The drumming of Derek Weir comes across as a slight Devourment sound, but without the near constant fervent snare work. Weir plays the drums with a thrashy technique that is simultaneously groovy and thick. This seems to result as much from his skill as it does from the play of the rest of the instruments. Overall Weir conveys a nice mix of blast beats, vitriolic Nick Barker type rolls, and disgusting double kick. Adding to the broootality is the turbid congealed bass of TJ Garcia whose thick sound is akin to having an 800 pound block of concrete crush your ball sack. Garcia walks the plank between slow attunement and blazing head banging thunder. He and Weir do a fine job of complimenting each other musically while luring the listener into convulsions. In this sense the drums are pulverizing while the bass pounds sadistically. Hell, during several tempo changes Garcia evokes his bass with a fist of pure BOOMING hatred that reminds me of something heard from Vitality skewered with Saprogenic mixed with Michael Anthony of Van Halen (When they had balls) on his old Jack Daniels bottle bass.
Production on ‘Ritualized Murder' is both clear and grubby reminding me of something I would have heard from Reign of Terror mixed with early Cancer and Necrosanity. In this way they have created an album that sounds both primitive and somewhat Old School while being modern. In some of the songs you listeners are going to hear the subtle hum of the amp or fingers sliding along the fret board. Purists are gonna bitch about this, but they can have prison sex with the boys in 98 Degrees to compliment their anal opinions. Another cool element of the music is the resounding scream of Laura Gillaspy.
My only 2 gripe's with Aversion to Life' album ‘Ritualized Murder' is that they have a cover song off of Cancer' ‘Death Shall Rise' that I can do without only for the fact that I am not big on cover tunes. My second bitch is that the album is too short, but then that always seems o happen with music I enjoy. Despite those facts I can not help but exhort that Aversion to Life have done an exceptional job of playing their version of slamming Brutal Death Metal. Certainly they are better than Stabwound who are more hardcore and rap sounding, and they slay better than generic Devourment acts like Born Headless and Carnivore Diprosopus. Actually a good contrast for Aversion to Life is Devourment. What I mean by that is that Devourment is really a one dimensional ultra-Broootal Death Metal band that relies on putrid vocals, fast snare, and chugs to the point that they may as well put a patent on chugging. In this sense Devourment is extremely drab, this is why I can never give any of their albums more than a 4 or 5 song consecutive listen. Still, caveman stoner morons sure dig it when they circle like morose turds in a most pit. See, I don't mind a bit of repetition, but I want it done with a flair that keeps me rocking. Bon Scott era AC/DC are a good example in that they rely on a solid blues backbone, but what makes them a fun listen is that each of their songs has a cool solo, a raunchy beat, exceptional licks, and vocals with attitude. By contrast Aversion to Life manages to do the same damn thing without solos in Brutal Death Metal style. Certainly the music Aversion to Life has managed to put forth is better than the entire Devourment catalog making it somewhat ironic that Mike Majewski did the cover art and sang guest vocals for ‘Ritualized Murder'.
Recommendation: Burn your Devourment and all that other supposed cult bullshit cause your just conforming to a smaller group of assholes who think they are unique or laughably intellectual. Next go out and buy the new Aversion to Life album ‘Ritualized Murder'. Then slide the disc into your eager car CD player and go out cruising for cops. If you have problems locating them just look for pigs getting blow jobs in ally's from hookers, or at the ole donut shop. Subtly find out their name then accost them violently at home with a baseball bat. If you have gone that far then you are SERIOUSLY STUPID for taking me literally. BUT if you listen to Aversion to Life then you are a borderline genius even if your new home is a jail cell and you're the pillow biting bitch owned by Adolf, the 300 pound Arian rectum rapist.
