“Ahem, hey you, shut the fuck up. Now that I got your attention let me get on the ole soap box briefly. I can pretty much deal with any crime or act of violence committed against an adult human being with the only element of disgust afflicting me being carrion. This goes back to my experience discovering a murdered body as an 11 year old youth going for soda-pop, and when I saw the brain remnants in a Volkswagen bug after a shotgun homicide victim was removed when I was 15. I have seen other forms of gore too and while disgusted I am never truly shocked or appalled, for I accept the human aptitude for brutal murder. My only source of true revilement comes from an immorality committed against a child. In that regard I would love to go to work on a satyromaniac child rapist or pedophile priest's with a small caliber drill bit into the knees. Another fun filled act would be blow torch flame applied to the ears. Then I could remove the crisp gristle with a pair of pliers. See, extracting the humility from fiends who sodomize children is a just reward for their nefarious dereliction. More importantly my actions against these reprobates would be tireless considering that the soundtrack to their torture and my inspiration would be Clawn's ‘Deathless Beauty of the Silence'. Thank you for your attention to my little speech.”
On a brighter note Clawn come out of Brazil, a nation known for an outstanding soccer squad, and some of the most amazing rotund pussy to walk the face of this planet. They have been around since 1998. In the near 10 years of their existence Clawn has released 2003's ‘Final State of Depression' and this year's ‘Deathless Beauty of Silence', that leaves their past work mired in the deepest crack of an Amazonian hottie's swanky ass. Turgid riffs and seditious tomes shook my Bose earphones for 12 songs. Each track is textured with marvelous breaks, doom crusted mid-tempos, and speedy outbursts showcasing a variance in technique between musical clarity in canter and gallop. Morose slow smirchy chugging ostinato's of Obituary fame mash your cranium and ugsome melodies that embody the finer elements of Incantation are in various numbers. High velocity riffs cut from the Morbid Angel mold are played even faster. Melissa' deep bulldozer like double bass ala Krisiun thumps your jaw into powder, while the bass and guitar have an almost eerie Embalming Theatre tone. The dual vocal assault of Fábio and Rodolfo is a cross between Beheaded, Disgorge (USA), and XXX Maniak that in a weird way remind me of Exhumed's gore and grind double vocals. Actually, Torture Squad is another Brazilian Thrash band whose vocals are similar with less intense screeching, and their deep vocals that are usually employed in the chorus of their songs is comparable to Rodolfo' vulgarian putridity.
Scott Hull mastered Clawn's ‘Deathless Beauty of Silence'. Apparently the popular media considers Hull to be the greatest thing since Jesus died on the cross for the Republican Party, and White House administration. As some of you may know, Hull has worked with bands like Nile, the heavily overrated Pig Destroyer, the latest The Day Everything Became Nothing, and Suffocation. Concerning ‘Deathless beauty of Silence', the production as a whole is clear yet unmistakably unregenerate. All the instruments seem to be in balance with nothing lost in the mix, making the recording as a whole more edacious. Essentially, the album can be played at any volume and it is going to sound exceptional. To put it another way for those you that are comprehension impaired: This album is fucking HEAVY.
Normally I would not go about showcasing the talent of one individual in a band, but Melissa deserves some credit. She plays the drums as good as most males, which will be much to the chagrin of priapic morons. Melissa is diabolically vulpine as she holds the structure of each of Clawn' compositions together with her infectious tempos. Unlike some drummers she is able to play fast without losing the snare to the bass drum and she employs a nice mixture between unconventional drum patterns and blazing blast beats. Overall she is a splendid addition to Metal, which is a genre that always needs the grace of a female to keep it invigorating and sexy.
‘Deathless Beauty of Silence' is full of standout songs. “Sexual Religious Dementia” is a fucking microcosm of hate. Hell, why should I describe it when you can head over to http://www.clawn.com.br/videos/videos.html to hear and see the insanity for your rotten selves. “Endless Suffering” is primordial artistic ooze with riffing at 1:39 that makes me think of an eerie descent into a cavern or abyss. The song encompasses a horror vibe that would go perfect with reading ‘Pickman's Model' by H.P. Lovecraft, in that it is totally sordid, but hypnotizing. “The Essence of Chaos” has some drum work that reminds me of Vital Remains. A neck breaking mid-paced beast of a riff kicks in at 2:11 followed by a fast tempo that rips out your liver to close out the last minute of the track. “Human Remains” has an epic feel to it left over from the previous track “Slavery Mental State" , that is enhanced by a jugulating series of hooks. Short of giving you all fine readers a description of each song, let it be known that ‘Deathless Beauty of Silence' is an unrelenting wall of discord sure to bust yer mamma's speakers.
Diabolical fiends I suggest that you all get out the ole credit card and buy this album NOW. Actually, you should have ordered it before you read this review, but I am willing to overlook this oversight cause I know how dedicated you all are to the near infallible opinions of the writers at Diabolical Conquest. With that in mind order up ‘Deathless Beauty of Silence', or travel to Brazil and buy it personally from them. Then take all your false Metal and burn it in effigy with unrelenting fervor inspired by Clawn. Hahahaha, kill a priest and a pedophile too… Make me proud.
