Cyber Killer - Everything |
Ah lovely, a festerin' puddle o' Cybergrind scraped up from the feculent recesses of MySpace, splattered onto shiny disc then sent all the way to the UK just for me! Yum! However, having recently ingested the toxic belch-byproducts of Erwin de Groot on his recent S.M.E.S. album, Euphoric Insanity might struggle in providing me with that same instant hit of Cyberporn hilarity. Lets scoff it and see.
Of course, the guzzlement of serotonergic psychedelic drugs is a prominent influence behind a lot of Industrial Grindcore, and given the title of his release, the textures therein and the opening clip from classick off-yer-tits flick ‘Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas', Euphoric Insanity are of course no exception. (Non-)music such as this paints an image of a soiled bedroom studio in which one or two agitated, face-chewin' gurners sit glued to a PC workstation with eyes that resemble two poached eggs either side of the nose, hastily sequencin' together silly sounds ‘n' daft rhythms together as fast as possible so they can pop out and meet Mr. Dealer. So what's the artistic result of the multi-hued intake of this one mysterious individual, known only as Cyber Killer? Cheesy, seedy and sleazy Cybergrind of course! The instrumentation is as basic as can be, to wit, kitsch programmed drums, laughably simple Clubgrind rhythms, absurd squelches ‘n' squirls, a crude, repetitive thrum generated with some pulsatin' patch or other, all daubed in gelatinous pitchshifted vokill pigswill. To these sagged ears, this silliness was a fun listen to begin with, but began its sloppy descent into runny monotone mud about a third of the way in, momentarily regainin' my attention with one or two groovy breaks, afore becomin' somewhat irksome in its primitive beatz, and then finally hissin' to a close.
With its dizzy Clubgrind thrub-throb, clinical percussive clatter and lumpy vokill regorgement, Serotonin Syndrome bears many a similarity to any act attemptin' to emulate the original dancefloor fillers churned out on the early works of genre-pioneers Libido Airbag, Nunwhore Commando 666 and S.M.E.S., thus assimilatin' any one of dozens of bands currently gnawin' at the cavernous FruityLoopsgrind canker currently coverin' the puckered flesh o' their MySpace host. Think filth like Spermswamp, Klysmaphiliac, Sperm Overdose, Cranial Rectosis, Sperm Injection et al, but with a primitive sordidness that harks back to first wave Cyber Goregrind like Intestinal Slaughter, Microphallus, Gynophagia and perhaps Intense Soaked Cloth.
As you might've guessed, the sound quality is scum-caked, fuzzy and inarticulate, which adds further obscurity and murk to the pus-sodden material.
In summary, as is the case with their contemporaries, Euphoric Insanity is yet another easy to assemble, no guitars required DIY Cybergrind act that barely diverges from the well-trodden muddy-path, which is damn near excusable when many such bands have a myriad of VSTs instruments, soft-synths, samples, effects and plug-ins at their downloadable disposal. If you're new to this type o' Grind, then you'd be better off purchasin' yourself a hefty wrap o' higher quality, faster-acting stuff from the back catalogue of Libido Airbag, or something more colourful ‘n' trippy by S.M.E.S., then become an insatiable Psy-Grind completist, track down every underground release with programmed drums, lewd rhythms, slop-vox ‘n' a splat-logo, addin' Serotonin Syndrome to yer stack as you go!
