Listening to Chaos Dissection Order, the third full length album by the underappreciated Dutch grinders, you would feel as if the very elements of nature are against you. Ben's guitaring with its pressing dragging-on-gravel tone, the muffled roars and rippling screams of the two gore-gagged vocalists Joost and Dorus, drummer Roel's whipping up of a tornado to the sinister rumblings of the bassist Loek, all combining to create an unabated fiery attack through a forceful and concentrated sonic form that ends up assaulting you both physically and mentally, leaving an indelible impression on you for the remainder of your existence.
Musically, Inhume like Regurgitate merge the best elements of goregrind with that of old school grindcore to create a gratifying sound that's meaty as well as caustic, music that would logically appease fans of both the sub-genres, especially the ones craving for a middle ground which does not necessarily imply half-assed. Inhume has shown signs of striking this ingenious balance right from their blazing debut Decomposing From Inside even though it was much grindier than what the band sounds today. Sophomore album In For The Kill saw the band having worked on their songs to make them grittier and meatier, adding a new dimension to their music. It was on this album that the two grind forms coalesced into a distinct sound, which when delivered with its kind of force and rage, was like all the different moods, pent up feelings and wild emotions being expressed through just one mighty punch from your girlfriend that made you reel for half an hour. It was hard to conceive of Inhume pushing the envelope any further but they have achieved that on Chaos Dissection Order, an album which knocks the living daylights out of your soul amongst other vital things.
Inhume have performed this commendable feat by evidently incorporating a few useful aspects from two other excellent bands they have blood relations with – Bile and Cliteater – such as the illicit acquiring of the former's guitar. Inhume‘s guitar tone that wasn't too prominent on their previous one but it has since been swollen up as if being bitted by a nasty gorebug, automatically propelling it in the limelight. However, to pull this off the riffs needed to be substantive, and saving much embarrassment for everyone concerned, they actually are of top notch quality. Played vigorously, they are also more fleshed out than before and occasionally come close to sounding like the moshy brutal death metal ones. Further shoved
amidst the suppressed cheers
into the intense and chaotic music of Chaos Dissection Order are the hefty madman romps of Cliteater, providing for an adrenaline pumping departure from the main grinding music. To effectively summarise the music on this album I will have to refer to the unsubstantiated reports from my top secret sources which affirm that Inhume had actually intercepted Dead Infection during their promotional tour for Brain Corrosion and threatened them with a cleaver to play blistering covers of early Assuck, Terrorizer and Napalm Death songs, which they gleefully recorded for their magnum opus that Chaos Dissection Order has turned out to be.
Boasting of a brilliant balance between gore and grind, exemplary synchronisation, lightning speed and draining intensity, outstanding vocal performances and an overall distinctive personality if not original one, Chaos Dissection Order has everything a grindhead could ask for. Buy and unleash the grinding gore fury of Inhume.
