Not to be confused with the Dutch band with a similar but basic name Maggots, what we have here is a band from Japan with a highly profound and deep imagination, much like mine I fancy, called Maggut – absolutely astounding, isn't it? This and the fact that they're Japanese made it simply irresistible for me to buy their album ‘Into The Gore' which seems to be their debut.

As it turns out, this cd spins happily with a good pace around the ‘Carnivorous Erection' of Regurgitate and I found myself staring at it with as much fascination as little kids watching a colourful top spin on the ground. Once you set this Maggut to spin, it spins gloriously without any obstacles in its path in the form of intros that are often 18 times the length of a song in this goregrind genre. Also it doesn't make you dizzy by spinning on forever but comes to a fitting halt right after 20mins that will only make you cheer wildly and will make you want to toss the damn thing hard and set it blazing again.

Much to my glee I found that the robust penile axis around which it rotates often sways up and down. When it sways up, it tickles the beer belly of early Last Days of Humanity who scream with distortion and burp hysterically and at that time even Regurgitate gurgles out some semen in excitement. And when it drops down, it acknowledges the hairy undergrowth of what could only belong to the Spaniards. Upon more concentration I could indeed make out a couple of hairy sacks, of ‘em one belonging to Machetazo and the other to Gruesome Stuff Relish. Thus this swaying movement of what looks like an inverted coconut tree (with two coconuts) brings a fair deal of groove and thrashiness to this album which makes them more varied as compared to Regurgitate. Speaking of Regurgitate, these guys have also covered their song “Total Dismemberment of a Female Corpse” and have done it quite well. The production is laudable with a crisp and clean sound with all the instruments brought out right in front of your face, almost touching it.

Maggut is yet another successful discovery from Japan for me and it would be for you too if you'd stop acting so cheap. It's not greatly original but it's very well played, tight as your thumb in that beer bottle, and it's a delight to watch…er, hear it spin. Get ‘Into The Gore' and make merry.

Caution:
Don't stare too much; you can see on their artwork what happened to those kids when they did that.
