Purveyors of preposterously extreme Czechgrind, the Mincing Fury sweethearts return with a feral full-length album, replete with infectious Grind/Death indulgences, clenchin' their excessive intentions into their most rounded effort thus far. Since the pure Czechgrind sound heard on the Lamentations debut outing, the band have crowbarred more Death Metal elements, old and new, into the cranium-manglin' compositions. 7 takes onboard a few misshapen melodies and riff-monoliths of Old Skool, barbed wire pinch harmonics and chug-driven crushment conventions of Brootal Death, both of which work very well alongside the blisterin' Grinds. Aside from contemporary Czech excess, their methods of Grind also encompass Mincecore en-Crusted grunt-alongs and morbid ol' Goregrind (un)melodies.
Twin guitars map a nice network of semi-technical riffs, progressin' from standard Grind entry points, through rapid tremolos, in and out of bright ‘n' writhin' lead-warble afore arrivin' at a heavin', gargantuan groove, all sustained by a carefully plotted rhythm section. The drumwork takes an instinctive, realistic approach to Grind drumming; giving all parts of the kit a thorough brutalisation, but never forgetting the importance of total snare maltreatment. In terms of ludicrous vokill sounds, I think the band have excelled themselves this time around. Slobberin', guttural snarls and high-pitched, swine-gut squeals bounce innovative ideas off of each other, interspersed with frequent, bile-sodden screams and shouty-arsed yells, with occasional vomit-swillin' gargles. The pig-styled vox are most creative of all, taking the now well-worn technique and usin' it to make some hilarious vokill arpeggios and melodies. This refreshin' and forward thinkin' use of the pig-vokill skill produces some remarkably catchy lil' reeee-driven (un)melodies, rather than just relying on the basic sound itself. There are also a few nice trumpet highlights to be had, tucked away near the end of the album.
The album sounds akin to other lokill Czechgrind-heads, but despite the vokill similarities, methinks it'd be erroneous to compare the music to the likes of Jig-Ai, N.C.C. and D.E.A.G., seein' as 7 has much more in common with the crawlin' terror of Pigsty mini-album Spiders, the hectic pace of last couple o' Ingrowing outings and the entwined madness of Machine Grind Surgery by Perversist. A few of the Mincecore vokill stylings sound a bit like the Malignant Tumour pub-Crust favourite A Dawn of a New Age. The more inspired ‘n' adventurous technical moves bring Intervalle Bizarre to mind, while a few of the more madcap antics remind me of very old Purulent Spermcanal or Hypoptalasias or someone like that. Beyond the Czech scene, these ears of cerise cochlea coagulation can easily detect a few Broootal Death influences, offerin' friendly nods in the direction of the Central as well as the Latin American underground, using the piercing pinch-harmonic warble of Ancient Necropsy to cap the caveman slam-dance of Devourment and Artery Eruption, adding the rich, porcine vokill-sound of Rottenness. Often, the composition and performance of any Grindcore/Goregrind material instinctively pays homage to Napalm Death and Carcass, thus the work is laden with sizeable slabs of both bands, seein' song in particular plainly purloins one o' its riffs straight from The Kill, while the clinical, semi-convoluted riffage of Carcass opus Necroticism is apparent elsewhere on the record.
Sound production is pristine; there's good, healthy gain on both guitars, well rounded bass sound, adept manipulation of panning levels on the kit, satisfying vokill representation, all mixed to a highly comprehensible standard. Aside from some of the vokills sittin' on top of everything slightly (probly a just bit of over-enthusiastic compressin' ‘n' limitin'), there's little to complain about production-wise.
Another winner from the Mincing Fury boys then, which is sure to delight all their fans. If you're au fait with the Czechgrind scene, then you'll have already enjoyed this and/or other Mincing outings. If not, then you're sure to enjoy 7. If you're new to this portion of the European Death/Grind, there is of course hulkin' bank of choice when makin' a purchase/download, but you could do far worse than give this lil' beauty a spin.
