Ah, perfect. This wee CD was a spaff-soaked boot in the arse of Pornogrind when it first came out, around the time when Gut had dried up and holed themselves up in a dank crack-lounge to formulate their cack, cod hip-hop comeback, Cock and Ball Torture had gone all flaccid in between our foamin' flaps, Mucupurulent just started doin' the same riff/beat/vox in every single song til you just didn't give a shite about them any more, and whenever a new band cropped up, it seems to be just another one man cyberporno band with a Fruity Loops demo, a detuned guitar and rubbish pitchshiftin' methods. Then, these groovy fuckers from Eindhoven popped up, thick of riff and stiff of prick, with a set of tracks that expounded upon everyone's porno/goregrind predilections, bringin' us the sleaziest, silliest fun-time party gore vibe possible! With its throbbin' groove, bulbous percussion and slobber-gob sewer-vox, it reminded me of why this particular kind o' grind caused me to tumesce so grotesquely in the first place! So, here's the re-release, so I can re-remind myself.
When this one came out, they still had unsung grindin' hero, Steven Smegma from, er, Smegma (and Bowel Crust) on vox; he left after the next ‘en [Hellcock's Pornflakes]. But this is Menstrual Stomphulk, the first release from one of the finest pornogoregrind bands in the entire stinkin' style. If you're into gore/grind stuff then I'm sure you'll be familiar with this band already, but if not, here's a few words on it from me! Rompeprop provide ideal goregrind BBQ music, perfect pre-gig/club drinkin' songs and optimal silly dancin' soundtracks; this band never fail to bring a smile to my face.
The tunes are deliberately simplistic in order to suck you in with the rampant catchiness right away; mud-tuned guitars roar along with raw gore chords in a sordid dancefloor fillin' manner, whilst an extremely broad rhythm section bashes away, the result of which bein' the biggest, sleaziest grooves imaginable. In carvin' out the choicest cuts of groove-infused pornogrind and feverish, splattery goregrind then deliverin' it all with a markedly silly sense of humour, Rompeprop provide a cumplete package with a perfect balance therein, but without makin' it sound contrived or clinical; they make playin' in such a style feel as natural as eating or fucking. I'm sure you'll enjoy the unbashed catchiness of the thing right away; take first tune "Dislocated Purple Stoma" for example, with its poundin' rhythmic thump, inescapable beats and a vox line that you can sing along with immediately! The way the vox are performed is sure to make you chuckle, with thick and viscous glottal splatter, a very funny sort of hoarse crusty roar and borborygmic sloshment, all ridiculously pitchshifted throughout of course.
Now then, comparin' Rompeprop to stuff that came about afore them can be done easily and lazily, but a wee bit more clarity is required on my part so it doesn't look like I'm puttin' their works across as some sort of slavish ripoff. Many'll agree there's a bit of a Cock and Ball Torture type vibe at work here, they've got the groove-laden tunes and slippery pitchshifted vox, but where CBT have those dark, lurid bondage-gore overtones, Rompeprop have a much jollier feel; CBT are content to chain us to the garden fence and beat us over and over again with an extremely rigid ridin' crop, whereas our Dutch friends give us a much more colourful floggin', by usin' a variety of birches, whips and switches, unchaining us so they can chase us round and round the garden, but keepin' us cuffed at the wrists and ankles for maximum hilarity. I daresay Rompeprop can sometimes come across as like much warmer, less clinical of the CBT style, with the infectious humour of Sicko Baby by Mucupurulent and Gut classick Odour of Torture, but with much heavier use of vox FX and an absence of girlish falsettos. Many may also hear some old-skool mid-paced goregrind like Horror of the Zombies-era Impetigo, perhaps even an atmosphere akin to that of Club Mondo Bizarre by Pungent Stench, but even fuzzier and filthier, along with a few bits of older Regurgitate and maybe some Utopie too! It's easy to see the influence they've had on more recent acts as well, such as Hymen Holocaust, Bitch Infection, later Lord Gore, Cliteater and current Noxious Coitus.
The cover art, which as far as I'm aware was created by Smegma himself, holds a special place in my lard-clogged heart, seein' as one of my first (and favourite) goregrind CDs, namely the super old-skool gore release, the Putrid Offal/Exulceration split, featured an early black and white piece from Smegma on the Exulceration side, which was a very primitive pic of a hideous gore-head with bits of putrefied flesh hangin' from it, almost like a very, very early incarnation of the horrid but funny green guy you can see here on the cover of Menstrual Stomphulk.
The lyrical matter clearly plays a large part in this episode of goregrindin' entertainment, takin' obscene or sickenin' ideas and scenarios but then exaggeratin' them as much as possible for optimal daftness, "Crash Test Faggots", "The Erected Underwater Necro-clit Stomper" and "The Babyshitter" bein' my personal favourites. No deliberately stupid gore-pun here (other than changin' the name of "Boneyard" to "Boneryard" for their rousin' cover of the old Impetigo fave), those came later with Hellcock's Pornflakes and the forthcoming Gargle Cummics (oh dear!).
So there we have it, the debut release from a premium rate pornogrind outfit, now re-released for keen goregrind listeners to pick up if they missed it the first time around (I believe the original run was only a wee one), or for others to discover and become instantly addicted to. Rompeprop are the complete pornogrind package; if you haven't already, you ought to acquire this and everything else they've done right away!
Wuuuuarrrgghhhhhhhhhhgle!
