I can always count on Japan for cloning something great and bettering it. From video games to cartoons to almost everything, you name it. I live in New York City and when I was getting into Death Metal, most of the local bands that I saw were Internal Bleeding/Dehumanized hardcore/tuff guy jun-jun-jun style bands and I really didn't enjoy it until I heard Vomit Remnants. They copied something and made it better and when they toured here - they totally out ghettoed and out blinged us local New Yorkers with their tribal tattoos, NY Yankee Baseball caps, Vans shoes etc. What does this whole paragraph got to do with Viscera Infest? They're a clone band, a very good clone band and not only that, this time the band is a clone of one of the most vicious acts of brutal goregrind bands to ever exist, Mexico's very own: DISGORGE.

Though no one can be greater than the true Disgorge, at this point with Antimo's absence, this band could equal the originators if they just push ahead and continue on what they're so awesomely doing. Its really scary how sometimes both the vocalists can imitate Antimo's gurgling Aloysius Snuffleupagus-like snorts - but not only that, they also have their own inhaled shrieks and vortex-like lows. This 'demo' is comparable to Disgorge's 3 song split material with Cock And Ball Torture. Which is my favorite release from Disgorge. The production though, is raw but not as visceral as the earlier efforts of Disgorge; the riffs are audible and each hammering hit of the drums are present. A very well produced 'demo'. The reason why I quoted the word 'demo' is because this could technically pass off as an EP, its not a Cdr and its professionally pressed. The packaging is as professional as it can be, it even has the cool side sleeve that Macabre Mementos, Amputated Vein, Hydrahead and Relapse would have for their releases. Even from the packaging, its all about Disgorge worship, with the forensic photos of a buggy eyed cadaver and beneath the CD, a photo of an exposed brain (just like in the 'Chronic Corpora Infest' album).

Even the snare sound is just like on 'Chronic Corpora Infest', this band got Disgorge down to the bone. From the slow snare/kick/hi hat blasts to the hyper blasts, from the rapid staccato riffs to the sloppy tremolo picking and the doomy fucking riffs that only Disgorge can pull off. Come to think about it, Disgorge has to be one of the most brutal death/grind/gore band that has actual life-crushing, soul extracting doom riffs and from the land of copycats this band, Viscera Infest, is ready to usurp Disgorge of their throne.

I see nothing but great things for this band in the future. Being a copycat doesn't necessarily mean they're inferior, look at all the Morbid Angel/Carcass/Deicide clone bands that are better than their originators. If you're looking for something original then look somewhere else. But if you're looking for the sountrack to satisfy that primal urge of bludgeoning the nearest living being and just ripping the torso off with your bare hands, then this is it. Just because its not original that doesn't mean its not enjoyable. Get off your high horse and enjoy life, go out there, buy this 'demo' and then disembowel someone.
