Vomepotro reminds me of the old third world country assembled tractors that tottered and spluttered along at such a steady pace that one could time it and accordingly plan his daily activities around it. Subjected to time and constant abuse, its glossy colour took off just as surely and permanently as your memories of it, often taking with it the external covering of the engine to reveal the rickety machinery beneath and its precariously fitted nuts and bolts. If the sickening exhaust emanating from it wasn't enough, oleaginous fluids were released for one to fully identify with the machine's passing. Overall, it was a grotesque looking contraption with ill-fitted components imported from various countries that did more noise than work, but people still embraced it for it was an option more effective than the conventional one.
Originating from Brazil and playing death metal, Vomepotro, like a rarefied few, don't believe in merely creating their own version of Krisiun for their equally narrow-minded fans to marvel at. Like their counterpart Fornication, Vomepotro have tried to incorporate the American brutal technology (pardon the term) within the conventional Brazilian structure of death metal; except that deliberate delays have been effected for the advanced parts to rust extensively before its assembly to give it that unmistakable third world look. The latest US technology features the time tested riffs and hooks of the Barnes-era Cannibal Corpse (just 15 years old!), the idiosyncratic compositions of Breeding Salvation Leukorrhea and Nice to Eat You Fleshless, and a few strokes of Putrid Pile. And of course, born in Brazil, they have to bear the Brazilian birthmark, identifiable with the typical menacing buzzing riffs and flamboyant leads of Krisiun and Rebaelliun.
With these many interesting components, the Vomepotro assembly should have become like a bulldozing monster, but due to the metaphorical reasons cited in the first paragraph, it isn't. Seriously hampering their effectiveness is their rigidity; instead of the allowing the riffs to expand and build up, stunted time slots seem to have been forcibly thrust upon them, severely constricting their movements – only the leads are able to tear their way though. As a result, Vomepotro appears to move in a rather ungainly manner, augmented by the stuttering goregrind kind of superfluous blasting by an otherwise dexterous drummer. It's like placing a midget on the track of a hurdle race and then expecting us to cheer wildly for him.
A devout fan of Brazilian death metal, I'm almost feeling sorry for myself; I really wanted to hop onto this unconventional Brazilian gore/death machine and hoot the horn at the ladies. Alas, Vomepotro‘s incongruous mixture and predictable monotony will always get in my way of genuinely liking them. “The Head Smasher” and “Mortal Fetish” manage to give the music a new lease of life, but it sadly expires soon after. Vomepotro reek of potential, but then so does my ass.
