Vomit Remnants/Godless Truth/Carnivorous - Split
|
Vomit Remnants are: |
Godless Truth are: Libor: drums |
Carnivorous are: Dan: guitar |
Splits are notorious for having one band that easily dominates the other(s), this is no exception. Vomit Remnants churn out 3 tracks of their own brand of slammin' moshin' pit startin' totally American influenced death groove. And as much as I hate slam-death I love the fuck out of Vomit Remnants!!! They're so much fun and full of charm no one could duplicate. Their grooves are so groovy it's almost humorous. Here, on this split expect to hear “more of the same” with a more bombastic sound over all. If you have not heard Vomit Remnants… take the groove aspects and burpy vocals of Dying Fetus and, exploit that, burp deeper and groove groovier-there ya' go, Vomit Remnants in a nut shell. All groove, all burp, oh yah and ultraaaaa triggered drums that sound beyond unrealistic. I love it! 8.0/10.0
Next up is Godless Truth and everything here would scream underachieving, but to scream they'd have to put forth effort and that's just something they don't or maybe can't do. It's so flat… so, so flat. A band on their level in the world wide scene of deathmetal shouldn't be so lazy and uninspired sounding! The vocalist sounds like he's reading the lyrics as opposed to growling them with demonic fury. If the drums weren't so triggered you probably wouldn't hear em because they sound like he's drinking a cup off coffee and watching TV as he just sorta limply places impact (somewhat) on each part of the kit. He does some blasting every once in a while for a few seconds, but the real funny part is how little he does besides double bass ad nauseam. The guitar work is so generic, that I can only shake my head, they try one of those Dying Fetus arpeggio things and it just sounds silly. Fuck all this is boring! It kinda sounds like Deeds of Flesh 'Trading Pieces' only on a tape player running low on batteries. Thumbs way down for Godless Truth. 1.0/10.0
Finally we're at the last band and it's a step up from Godless Truth. It's musically about the same except the batteries still have about 20 minutes left as opposed to 20 seconds. The sound is a bit on the “cheap” side, but the bass cuts right through the mix and reminds me of Inveracity in that regard… the drum rolls somewhat sound like Inveracity too! The vocals are of the throaty variety; think a cross between Frank Mullen on the 'Breeding the Spawn' album and the roar of Krisiun-only not as menacing or powerful as either. Carnivorous is one of those bands that if they keep going will either be something outright awful or pretty damned good, they need to kick the “utter bruuuutaaaaality” up about 2 or 3 notches to even get noticed though! Not withstanding, above average brutal drrrth. 4.5/10.0
Overall feelings? Well, Godless Truth sure does suck a monkey turd, or rather-instead of sucking it, they just look at it for a while and then sit down because they forgot what they were supposed to do in the first place.
Carnivorous is way better in comparison, thus making them sound good-even though they aren't *that good*
Vomit Remnants are still the best slam-death band in the world and all this did was prove they have a future after Takahiro.
Recommended for hardcore Vomit Remnants fans, as well as fans of substandard music.
